makingamillion.net sold for $4M

May 7, 2007 :: Ramblings, Better Blogging, me, me, me :: 1 Comment

That’s right, some twat phoned me up this morning and made a ridiculous offer. I told him it was not for sale, and he upped his offer….

I said “mate, you’re a fucking idiot, this site has no traffic, no members and makes no money, the domain itself is also pretty lame”.

If you have not guessed already this post is bullshit. Just a cheap stunt to gain some publicity by writing a punchy title. Much like this site has done -
Offer To Buy WickedFire for $16M!!!.

The strange thing is for this particular site a post like this got a lot of interest, it did its job, and the site itself IS very popular. It seems that self publicising arse gravy like this does actually work.

My opinion is that a good blog (or forum) requires not only good content, regular updates, but also its fair share brown and sticky. Though I do not want to smear my good name with poo, it may well be in my interest to self publicise a little more. I therefore refer you to my last post: I am Tim, I am Great

It also seems like a sensible thing for me to exaggerate the truth and be very selective with it to make myself look better than I am. For example when I say “Last night I made love for 4 hours” what I may in fact mean is “last night I was too drunk to maintain an erection for more than 5 minutes. After trying for 4 hours I finally passed out” … this is just an example, clearly I do not suffer from erectile dysfunction and actually I like to make love for 6 hours - minumum…. non stop…. with my big willy.

Discipline and priorities

March 28, 2007 :: Better Blogging :: No Comments

I keep telling myself that I will be more dicidplined, constantly lying by saying things like:
I will write a blog every day (which is worth reading). Manage my work better. Be more efficient with each of my tasks.

It is clear that this is no more than a load of bollocks. And for me to even consider it as plausible for more than a second makes me as stupid as any of you! Believe me there are some very stupid people reading this…. you know who you are! ;)

So, where does this leave me? Well with all the plans I have, all the responsisbilties I already have and with the back log of work I still am fighting to clear it does not leave me in a great position!

Good new is I don’t think the end of the world is nigh. I would love to be a better worker, I really would. But I if I could make any changes I think I would have done so by now! I am already giving 100% and despite what any of those motivational guru nob heads might say, you cant give any more, not even 10% more! The truth is I am quite happy to keep stumbling on and getting through only as much as I physically can manage.

What I DO need to do is prioritise better. I accept I will probably not get half the things on my list finished, certianly not within the time frames I would like. But I could definitely do a better job of prioritising my tasks.

Todays common sense tip
Prioritise.

Reading this blog can not possibly be one of your priorities, so on your way. Go on. Get lost…. okay, I know this is a great blog but honestly please go away. I don’t like you! Besides I have nothing more to say, apart from this -> this.

Why Blog

January 11, 2007 :: Better Blogging :: 1 Comment

I’ve started telling a few friends and family about this blog. Most seem to like it, and some who know me well immediatly asked me “why blog?”. Everything that I have done online to date has been not for personal satisfaction or salvation but for money! So what is the point to this blog, there seems to be no way of it generating revenue.

Why people blog

Since I have started to more actively use this site I have done a lot of reading of other blogs (many crap!). It is clear everyone has different personal reasons for blogging. Some blog about their lives and experiences, some blog to market a business or product, some blog about one topic because they love it or to build incomce from adverts on their site.

I saw one blog today - Reader Poll: Why Blog? - I took it and apparently the main reason is to publish/share ideas…. fairly obvious I guess!

My Reasons

These are evolving. Originally it was to make money, pure and simple. When I registered this domain and set the site up I was excited by the name. I thought it would be a great way of me generating an interest in some of my projects. Since starting it however there have been delays in a lot of what I’ve been working on and it has not been as straight forward to build traffic as I initially and naively thought.

Right now I blog because I hope I have something interesting to say. I want to keep people informed about what I am doing within my business. Ultimately I want to build the number of people who read this blog. Hopefully a large number will be fellow wannabe entrepreneurs who might benefit from my experiences, my advice and indeed some of my own sites. This is not ever going to be a tool to sell anything. But naturally I will discuss what is making me money, and what might help others do the same.

Making Money?

Many bloggers also directly make money from putting ads on their blog, this is not something I would consider until I have the traffic. But by becoming a better blogger and gaining good targeted traffic then it is something that has potential further down the line. Especially if the ads were relevent.

I’ve already made good money from certain affiliate programs, I intend to talk about these so others will have the opportunity to try it themselves. I will also soon have affiliate programs of my own. Discussing strategies on here, what worked, what didn’t etc could help gain interest in those programs, what others earn from them and earn me a little extra referal commission.
This really is a business blog. The business is not only my limited company, but me. The target is always going to be £1 million and I hope this blog will help me get there, how directly the blog affects it we shall have to wait and see!
