Notes to self. part 2

November 16, 2007 :: Ramblings :: No Comments

1. People drive slower in the cold, especially around Bristol - Leave 20 mins earlier.
2. Buy more coffee.
3. Give money to Children in Need. Sadly I am not a child, nor “in need”. I just act like a child and am in need of a good kicking.

Notes to self

1. Remember to move car seat from my car to Abi’s so they are not stuck in the house all day
2. The car will be frosty in the morning - leave 10 minutes earlier to defrost while changing seat
3. Be good, Christmas is approaching and Santa knows who’s been good and bad
4. Complete and post some legal paperwork
5. Buy Alcohol for the weekend

I posted this on my site, because while they are the 5 most important rules I live by, they also apply to YOU. Follow these and you will find true enlightenment. Ignore my wise words and YOU WILL DIE.

Booth Babes

October 4, 2007 :: Ramblings :: No Comments

For the purpose of this, and following posts, until the novelty wears off I shall refer to myself in the third person…

“The Godfather” was just chatting away via email to Shawn Collins - one of the organisers behind the Affiliate Summit. Shawn directed The Godfather a post about booth babes, or more accurately about the decline of the booth babe.

Not a massive poll, but enough to give good indication that at these types of exhibitions more people are put off by “booth babes” than attracted by them. I am pleased because this suggests others must have had the same impression of White Label Dating at Ad:Tech as I had. However, this joy can only be short lived….

armed with this knowledge I cannot claim good old fashioned chauvinistic ignorance and surround myself with a flock of beauties for “promotional” purposes. Doing anything like this now could be seen as no more than a selfish act to indulge my sexist fantasies.

Under the right circumstances it would work well. A B2B environment is probably just not the right place to be using such basic tactics.

Turns out I slept very easily in the end… I was knackered!!!

A geek!?

September 28, 2007 :: Ramblings :: No Comments

I can’t believe it - I have been called a geek! This is the single most offensive thing that anyone has ever done to me (apart from that time that guy shat in my face).

There was a little excitement in the hotel lobby this evening from a a drunk young man icausing trouble and being dragged out - it wasn’t me!

Got all sort of ideas running around in my tiny head at the moment, ways of imrpoving current dating system, making logic changes, refining and adding nich sires, working with different media, adding cheaper and higher price points, optimising devlopment, launching other product offerings, business models….

I have no idea how I am going to sleep.

Networking

September 27, 2007 :: Ramblings, Business Trips :: 1 Comment

Its been a long day at ad:tech exhibition in London - rarely does it get to this time and I am ready for bed…. not that I am actually ready for bed right now, but I would like to be!

Succesfull day: Met with many existing partners I have spoen with many times, lots of contacts for future B2B and new partner sites. Hopefully there might be a couple of contacts that although will not bring direct benefit to us, could be useful personal contacts for future devlopments. In fact was so busy I didn’t even get the opportunity to take break, eat or drink, let alone go around an check out some fellow exhibitors.

White Label Dating, an opposition of ours were very aggressive and confrotational, and in the end very ammusingly almost got thrown out. We have never used them as a target from which to poach partners so it was suprising to see a “professional” company stoop to such levels. Desperation is not good in business!

Another day of the same tomorrow, which if anything could be more intense, if a little shorter.

On a seperate note I cashed in the last of my shares a couple of weeks ago, I decided that holding the cash made more sense at this moment in time, especially all things considered - my inabilty to find time for due diligance, but much more significantly my past performance!

In a hotel room

September 26, 2007 :: Ramblings, Business Trips :: No Comments

Well, here I am in my hotel room in London, unable to sleep and waiting for tomorrow! I have watched TV, but there is nothing on, the movies are not that exciting and ather steep - for a few pennies extra you can get 24 hours porn!… so thought I might just do a spot of work instead. Yay.

Frustratingly I am about 20 meters inside the congestion zone in London which will add a few quid! Mind you I guess this is a negotiable charge compared to the parking and minibar… which is not even cold. I myself am a little cold, having just realised that instead of having the heating on full blast its the air-con I have been tunring up.

No idea what to expect tomorrow, looks promosing though, hotel is busy. I have plenty of business cards!

Busy week (ad:tech)

September 24, 2007 :: Ramblings, Internet :: No Comments

Its going to be an incredibly busy day tomorrow, and an even more intense week. Just making some final preparations for an exhibition WDP are sponsors of. Ad:Tech London is one of the biggest interactive marketing events, if not the biggest.

Naturally we hope to find some large partners at such an event. But personally I am looking forward to mingling with the many people from similar industries. Everything I do and am involved in is very focused on internet marketing. Obviously its in my interest to get connected with as many individuals in this field who can be of present, or future use.

Some of the exhibitions I have been to have been very disappointing, but with the size and quality of this I am expecting it to be very worthwhile….. Time will tell.

I also spent Friday talking with a very well connected individual in the Adult industry. Very positive ideas about working with WDP, particularly in the USA. I am sure we will soon come to an agreement, but regardless of this, the very exciting thing is that there is huge interest across the pond in what we do. We already have strong, long-running partnerships out there. It’s inevitable that soon we will have a bigger market share, hopefully as a result of this I will get to fly out more often!

Time to go, got some notes to make and suffering from a headache. Caffeine is either the solution or the reason.

Crack anyone?

Back on the Case

September 21, 2007 :: Ramblings :: No Comments

After a weekend of debauchery on a certain Mr Bens stag do its taken me a few days to wind back up to full operational speed. But here I am the third night in a row up at nearly 3am, planning on how to take over the world.

I do not have weapons of mass destruction, I do not have the money to hire an army, in fact I have no weapons at all. So my first and most direct plan is on hold. But my second will soon be well on the way…..

Networking is very important and I have now been fortunate enough to meet a few useful individuals recently, some might be kind enough to help me. Not by way of supplying mercenaries. But perhaps to help with some of my on-line (ad)ventures.

Failing that, I’ll just go back to selling crack.
